Flying High With No Fear

"Hey everybody get on your feet, hey everybody do the roadrunner beat!"
-HHS Spiritline

Ashley Jeffers-Sample and I talked about trying out for the cheer squad once basketball season had started. For some random reason, I felt the urge to be on the cheer squad! Something I wished I was able to experince but unfortunately, we were too late but I would still continue being a cheerleader in the crowd!

This cheer season brought several adventures to our schools squad....

The crowd grew bigger of course but with eight wonderful additions: Gage, Robert, Javier, Michael, Tucker, Andy, Carlos, and Guisseppe(Four of them being senior boys, whoot whoot!). Yes, the first time in high school history that our cheer squad was filled with a talented group of boys. (Well, since I have been around). I knew this would be interesting. I remember the day that Gage came up to me and told me that he was going out for cheer. I also remember him telling me who was joining him and I could not believe it! But they followed through with it and weeks later, eight studs joined our cheer squad out there on the sidelines. The first time I saw Hope get thrown in the air, oh my I swear I lost my breath for a couple of seconds because she sure did FLY! I am just so happy to see how much our cheerleaders are enjoying themselves out there on the court and better yet, I am even more happier to see the improvement in our spiritline!

It is amazing how far our spiritline has progressed throughout this season and their hardwork is clearly visible. So this Saturday, there my mom was speeding on the highway trying to make it to the competition as I kept telling her that we were not going to make it. Well there is one thing that I did learn and that is to not underestimate my moms driving skills because we made it, barely! We arrived to the gym to see our squad performing. I got the chills when I saw how much better they looked from the night before at the basketball game. Sure enough, they were out there with that Holbrook confidence and quite stunning as they nailed their performance. Sitting from the stands, I noticed how united our squad was and this included our boys. They had come a long ways. Enthusiasm filled that mat by our squad as they sat there awaiting the awards ceremony. The solid performance our cheer squad performed earned them three graceful trophies including: 3rd place for our girls, 2nd for our co-ed, and the trophy for Most-Entertaining. Yes that's right, our spirit line came home with three well-deserved trophies.

High School is all about experience. You do things to say that you have done it. Memories come from our new experiences. Four years ago I would have never expected my shy cousin Robert Jaquez to be a cheerleader and now he is, all because he got the courage to try something new. It is crazy how much change I have seen in that young man and I believe cheer has played a role in that. It has played a role in all those great eight young men who decided to try something that resulted in great experiences for them all. I'm especially proud of our senior boys who lived this wonderful experience this year! Sometimes you must explore outside your interests in hopes that you will find a little adventure and grand possibilities awaiting.

Holbrook Spirit line has been taken to the next level-CO-ED that is! Incredible job this season ladies AND gentlemen, keep up your hard work.

Watching Time Fly From the BLUE BOX.

“You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.”

Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Thirteen years ago on that early August day in the year of 1999, we walked through those doors of the Park Elementary School. I remember that nervous feeling I felt when I was introduced to my kindergarten teacher Mrs. Szink. People often use the expression that “it felt like it was yesterday” but truthfully, I can back that saying up. All we can do now is reminisce and enjoy the adventures that we endured throughout these beautiful thirteen years. I remember my first best friend Bethany Baldwin and that day that I went crying to the nurses office after I got a bloody nose. I remember when I used to play in the sandlot with Chuckie Brown's BMX figures and getting excited for field day. The memories can go on and on and in the end , we look back and REMEMBER.

Three years passed and we were in already in Hulet? Wow, those Park School days sure flew by. A time where we looked forward to reading because the reward were Foree Bucks for Mrs. Forees Store. Of course there were those times when we even had pen pals. In Elementary School, we never kept the same best friend. I swear Bethany Baldwin was my best friend a couple times throughout the years! That is one of the best parts that I have lived throughout this experience; we gain unforgettable friendships with people. So adios Mr Hansen, learning how to square dance was quite eventful!

Junior High was said to be drama. For some it was but for others it wasn't. I remember opening up more and letting go of the shy person I was. What a strange thought to think that I, Maria Garcia, used to be shy. The 2012 train grew in junior high when more members including students from the reservation joined our class. Well the adventures of junior high included awkward dances, boyfriends and girlfriends, braces and write-ups. I still can not believe Mr. McMahon is an incredibly fast runner with a belly! Well looking back now, there are times that stick out and those three years were a trip. We MUST not forget freezing our butts off at our promotion. As the weather was insane, each of us crossed that bridge to the high school with only four years left.

I will never forget how upset the upperclassmen were when we won freshman air band-priceless! From that day on, we became a legend.:) Mr. Carlson's “Lenny” voice was classic and in his class, everyday was a party. Homecoming was a time for our class to reunite, even if it meant staying late in Mrs. Carlson's room AKA, our home. Spending FOREVER setting up for Prom and being a bunch of grumps was well worth it because OUR prom was the bomb! Here we are now, with four months left in our senior year; four months left out of the thirteen years that we spent together. We have built bonds that will forever stay with us. Hundreds of memories have been made within each member of our class and it has been one heck of a ride down the fast lane. Happy times like this make me forget the sad times I experienced in the blue box. There is one thing that is true about the class of 2012; they did save the best for last.
